Otañez

Otañez was competing for a spot in Texas’ bullpen after a shoulder injury limited him to only 5 1/3 MLB innings in 2025. Unfortunately, he allowed four runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings so far this spring, so the Rangers will have him begin the season in Triple-A in the hopes of getting back on track.

Otañez, 28, had a 3.44 ERA and a 55/20 K/BB in 34 innings for the A’s in 2024, but he missed the start of last season with a shoulder impingement and never was able to contribute. If healthy, he’ll battle for a bullpen spot, but wildness has typically held him back.

Otañez had allowed eight runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings while walking five and striking out six. He’ll be sent down to make room on the active roster for Sean Newcomb.

Otañez returns to the Athletics’ high-leverage relief mix after missing the first six-plus weeks of the season with a shoulder impingement. The 27-year-old righty posted a solid 3.44 ERA across 36 relief appearances last year in his rookie campaign.

Otañez evolved into a key high-leverage option last year for the Athletics. He’ll open the regular season on the shelf, but is expected to rejoin the club’s bullpen by the end of April.

Otañez, 27, will now assuredly begin the season on the 15-day injured list. The right-hander is dealing with a right shoulder impingement, and he should be a relief option once ready to go.

Otañez did allow a hit, so it’s up to you to decide if he struck out the side or not. Regardless, it was an impressive effort for the 27-year-old that lowers his ERA to 3.50, and he has his first career MLB save.

Otañez returns to the big leagues with Luis Medina (elbow) landing on the injured list ahead of Saturday’s game against the Phillies. The 27-year-old righty has made three scoreless relief appearances this season in his first taste of the majors.

The Athletics had to clear a spot on their active roster for the return of Hogan Harris on Friday night and unfortunately Otañez was the odd-man out this time around. The 27-year-old hurler has fired 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball for the Athletics this season despite an elevated 1.80 ERA and a 6/4 K/BB ratio. It shouldn’t take him long to garner another opportunity at the big-league level.

Otañez will get a chance to work for the A’s while Hogan Harris is away on paternity leave. The right-hander made one appearance while with Oakland last month while throwing 2/3 of an inning of scoreless baseball.
