Red Sox outfield prospect Miguel Bleis gained 33 pounds of muscle this offseason while rehabbing after shoulder surgery.
Bleis entered last season as the 88th-ranked prospect on Baseball America’s Top 100 list but was limited to just 31 games before being sidelined with a shoulder injury that required surgery. While rehabbing, he spent considerable time working on his body, including building up his leg strength. Bleis, who played last season at around 170 pounds, said he has put on 33 pounds of muscle. Considering he has just 10 home runs in 107 minor league games, the added muscle could drastically impact Bleis’ potential value with the bat as a prospect.
