Díaz heads to San Francisco as extra organizational relief depth at Triple-A Sacramento after making one relief appearance last year for the Astros. The 30-year-old journeyman righty has logged 88 appearances (eight starts) between three different clubs at the big-league level dating back to 2017. He’ll presumably get a chance to compete in spring training for a spot in the Giants’ season-opening bullpen.

Diaz was released by the Astros on May 29 after posting an unsightly 9.64 ERA for Triple-A Sugar Land. The Tigers will give the 29-year-old a look regardless. If Diaz was to pitch well enough for a promotion, Detroit would have to add him to the 40-man roster.

The Astros removed the 29-year-old hurler from their 40-man roster earlier in the week, and after he went unclaimed on waivers he chose to explore the free agent market. After scouring the market for a day though, he decided his best landing spot would be returning to the Astros. He’ll continue to function as extra bullpen depth at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Díaz will search for a new opportunity elsewhere after going unclaimed on waivers after being removed from Houston’s 40-man roster. The 29-year-old righty made just one relief appearance for Houston prior to being designated for assignment.

Diaz is removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Blair Henley with Henley coming up to Houston to make a spot-start Monday against the Rangers. If Diaz goes unclaimed, he’ll likely report back to Triple-A Sugar Land.

The 29-year-old right-hander was waived by the Tigers last week and now will join the Astros’ 40-man roster to add bullpen depth. Díaz made 12 appearances (3 starts) last season with Detroit and posted a an impressive 0.64 ERA with a 16/5 K/BB ratio across 14 innings.

Díaz didn’t end up making Detroit’s Opening Day roster and figures to pass through waivers unclaimed. It’s unclear whether he’ll stick around or wind up electing free agency.

Díaz gets the ball to open a bullpen game for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon out in Oakland. The 28-year-old right-hander has allowed just one run on five hits with a 12/4 K/BB ratio across 8 2/3 innings of work (nine appearances, two starts) since being summoned earlier this month from Triple-A Toledo.

Díaz re-signed with the Tigers last offseason on a minor league pact and will be making his first appearance in the majors since the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old righty has made 75 appearances (five starts) in the big leagues dating back to 2017.
