Mike Esposito will get his first major-league start on Wednesday.
''I just want to take the opportunity and compete,’' Esposito said. ''I’m not going out there and say, ‘I wonder if I can?’ I’m going to go out and compete.’'He’ll be pitching in place of injured Zach Day.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Mike Esposito from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Esposito will make his major league debut tonight against the Padres at Coors Field.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Mike Esposito lasted 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs tonight against the Braves.
Esposito didn’t fan anyone and he actually managed to unintentionally walk Jeff Francoeur twice. He’ll make a third start for the Rockies on Saturday.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
The Rockies are considering starting nine rookies in a game, which hasn’t happened since the Houston Colt .45s did it back in 1963. It could happen as early as tonight in Atlanta.
Rookie Mike Esposito makes his second start tonight, while rookie Jeff Francis is scheduled to throw on Wednesday, and Esposito pitches again Saturday, making all three dates a possibility for an all-rookie starting nine. ''It’s something we have thought about and if it falls into place, it falls into place,’' manager Clint Hurdle said.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Mike Esposito made his major league debut for the Rockies tonight and yielded three runs over five innings at Coors Field against the Padres.
He gave up seven hits while walking three and striking out just one, so he should be happy to come away with just the three runs allowed. Esposito had pitched well in the minors before reaching Triple-A Colorado Springs this season, but he’s not someone who figures to have value at any point while pitching for the Rockies.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Mike Esposito surrendered three runs in 5 1/3 innings tonight in a loss to the Mets.
It could have been worse, but Randy Williams and David Cortes combined to bail him out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth. Esposito went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in his three starts for the Rockies. He’ll be put back in Triple-A for the start of next year.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Rockies optioned RHP Mike Esposito, RHP Manuel Corpas, 2B Jayson Nix, OF Jeff Salazar, RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP Juan Morillo, RHP Ramon Ramirez and RHP Eduardo Sierra to Triple-A Colorado Springs; reassigned LHP Justin Hampson, C Chris Iannetta, LHP Zack Parker, INF Troy Tulowitzki, RHP Jim Miller, RHP Sandy Nin and RHP Judd Songster to minor league camp.
Esposito, who made a couple of starts for the Rockies at the end of last season, gave up eight earned runs in 3 1/3 innings this spring. The team has enough starting pitching depth that he won’t be needed again anytime soon.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Rockies designated RHP Mike Esposito for assignment.
Jayson Nix, Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra are some other expendables on Colorado’s 40-man roster. Esposito has little in the way of upside, but he could eat innings as a sixth starter/middle reliever. It’d be best that he spend another year in Triple-A before getting the opportunity.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Right-hander Mike Esposito cleared waivers and reported to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Esposito is probably seventh or eighth on the Rockies’ starting-pitching depth chart, so he should be back in the majors later this season.
