Major League Baseball Trade Rumors is reporting that the Braves are going to release John Danks.

I forgot they even signed the guy, and I root for the dang team.

Danks was on a minor league deal and was not projected to factor into the Braves rotation plans, especially given the signings of R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon, who are more likely to more ably fill the “veteran innings eater” role than Danks could’ve. With Julio Teheran, Jaime Garcia and hard-throwing prospect Mike Foltynewicz, there wasn’t any room for the guy.

Danks struggled in his first four starts with the White Sox this past season before being released in mid-May. He owns a 4.92 ERA in 97 starts since the start of the 2012 season and has been bothered by shoulder issues for years. He says he doesn’t want to pitch in the minors, so it may be a tall order for him to find employment, at least until some pitchers start falling victim to injuries as the season begins.
