Arizona Diamondbacks closer Chad Qualls got creamed yesterday, allowing three runs in the ninth. But for the grace of God and Chris Young’s walkoff homer he would have blown the whole game. A.J. Hinch had a front row seat for it, and it sounds like he’s seen enough:
“It’s an ugly scene. He’s bearing the brunt of the struggles in the bullpen, so at some point it has to happen (pulling him), where you can’t leave it into fate and decide and try something different.”
Hinch made a point to note that Aaron Heilman has been the most reliable guy in the Dbacks pen, so you have to figure that he’ll start getting the ninth inning call pretty soon.
