Phillies catching prospect Tommy Joseph has been shut down for the remainder of the season after continuing to experience symptoms following a May concussion.

Joseph was a second-round pick in 2009 and came over to the Phillies from the Giants in the Hunter Pence trade, but Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the 22-year-old has had three concussions during his career and may be forced to change positions.

Once considered the heir apparent to Carlos Ruiz behind the plate, Joseph played just 36 games this year while hitting .179.
