Cubs sign left-hander Manny Parra

Left-hander Manny Parra, who spent the past three seasons with the Reds and has been in the NL Central for his entire career, has joined the Cubs on a minor-league contract.

Parra mostly struggled as a starter early in his career with the Brewers, but he’s had decent success since shifting to the bullpen full time and posted a combined 3.91 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 115 innings for the Reds from 2013-2015.

Chicago has plenty of options for left-handed middle relief, so it may be tough for the 33-year-old Parra to snag an Opening Day roster spot as a non-roster invitee. At the very least he represents good, inexpensive depth for the Cubs.
