Derek Lowe, who signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers three weeks ago, has made the Opening Day roster as a middle reliever, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.

He’ll presumably work low-leverage innings while also being around for any potential spot starts.

At age 40 and coming off back-to-back seasons with an ERA over 5.00 he’s not a great bet to have much success in Texas, but Lowe is a durable enough arm to provide some value in the bullpen.
