Arizona’s busy offseason means expectations for the Diamondbacks have been raised significantly and it also means manager Chip Hale is getting a contract extension after just one year on the job.
Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Diamondbacks have extended Hale’s contract “through at least 2017.”
His original deal, signed in October of 2014, was for two guaranteed seasons plus a team option for 2017. So presumably the extension turns the option year into a guarantee for 2017 and perhaps also gives the Diamondbacks further seasons of coverage.
Hale went 79-83 as a rookie manager and the Diamondbacks out-performed preseason expectations, but he’ll be facing a whole new level of scrutiny in 2016 now that a deep playoff run is clearly the goal.
