Yesterday the Dodgers called up reliever Steven Rodriguez from Double-A, making him the somewhat unlikely first 2012 draft pick to reach the majors.
Rodriguez was a second-round pick (82nd overall) in June’s draft after being named to the SEC first-team as a junior at the University of Florida and arrives in the big leagues after just 19.2 innings in the minors.
He was dominant during that brief time, posting a 0.92 ERA and 32/6 K/BB ratio between Single-A and Double-A, and the 21-year-old left-hander replaces the injured Scott Elbert as the second southpaw in the Dodgers’ bullpen alongside Randy Choate.
