Sean McAdam of CSN New England heard from a source Sunday that injured Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is likely to miss between four and six weeks.
Pedroia was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot on Saturday after fouling a ball off the foot during Friday’s game against the Giants. He has already been placed on the disabled list and is currently wearing a protective boot and using crutches.
Pedroia has a meeting Monday with Boston-based foot specialist Dr. George Theodore, who should be able to provide us all with a more definitive recovery timetable. He was batting .292/.370/.502 with 12 home runs, 41 RBI, 24 doubles and eight stolen bases at the time of his injury.
The Red Sox acquired utilityman Eric Patterson from the A’s soon after getting the diagnosis on Pedroia, and Patterson is expected to see a good amount of time at second base for the next month or so.
