The Brewers recently brought back closer Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez on a two-year, $13 million. Prior to the signing, the club had been considering their other options, including a trade for Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon that never materialized. In the end, Rodriguez and the Brewers seemed like a natural fit for each other.
In fact, Rodriguez says he turned down more guaranteed money to return to the Brewers, as Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The Marlins were the only other team to show legitimate interest in Rodriguez, so the higher offer likely came from them.
Rodriguez, 33, finished with a 3.04 ERA, 44 saves, and a 73/18 K/BB ratio in 68 innings for the Brewers last season. He has spent parts of each of the last four seasons in Milwaukee, compiling a 3.11 ERA in the process.
