Recent baseball attendance is still on a plateau above where it was just a few short years ago, but it is trending down ever so slightly. Around 1% off of last year’s pace, it appears. Maury has the detailed numbers over at Biz of Baseball this morning. Definitely worth checking out.
The biggest decliner this year: the Mets, who are more than 6000 off of 2009’s pace. The biggest gainer: the Twins, by over 11,000. Neither team or figure is really all that surprising. A little more surprising: the White Sox and Rays are both off last year’s pace despite rebounding on the field. I know attendance often lags team quality by a year, but you’d think they would have at least held steady. Also surprising: the Pirates are drawing better than they did last year.
