It was reported last week that the Phillies and left-hander Dennys Reyes had agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with a $1.35 million option for 2011, but Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia just tweeted that the deal is off.

Not to make light of Reyes’ conditioning, but it’s entirely possible that the team could have found something they didn’t like during his physical. Either that or Ruben Amaro was like, “Oh snap, after this Cliff Lee signing, we have already committed $155 million to 18 players for 2011. Reyes has gotta go.” Anyway, Reyes is now available to sign with any team.

The 33-year-old southpaw posted a 3.35 ERA and 25/21 K/BB ratio over 38 innings with the Cardinals last season. Though left-handed batters posted a .307/409/.453 batting line in 88 plate appearances against him in 2010, he has proven to be a fine LOOGY-type during his 14-year major league career.
