Baltimore has claimed right-hander Vance Worley off waivers after he was dropped from the 40-man roster by Pittsburgh.
Worley lacks high-end raw stuff, but he did a solid job for the Pirates as both a starter and reliever, posting a 3.31 ERA and 128/43 K/BB ratio in 182 innings during the past two seasons.
He made $2.45 million this season and will be due for a raise in 2016 via arbitration, so it’s possible the Orioles will decide to non-tender Worley next month. In the meantime they added pitching depth in the form a 27-year-old under team control through 2018.
