MLB.com’s Corey Brock reports that the Padres have traded outfielder Reymond Fuentes to the Royals in exchange for pitcher Kyle Bartsch. The move comes just a few hours before the 40-man roster deadline. The Padres would have had to make room there for Fuentes or expose him to the Rule 5 draft.
Fuentes, 23, split his 2014 campaign between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso. He batted a combined .294/.363/.416 over 372 plate appearances.
Bartsch, 23, got his first taste of Single-A baseball, spending his 2014 season with Wilmington. Over 55 innings, the lefty posted a 2.29 ERA with a 52/12 K/BB ratio.
