No deals are done until the ink is dry -- and you can’t put ink to paper until offers are made and accepted -- but Bob Nightengale of USA Today is saying that free agent starter Patrick Corbin is expected to receive a six-year deal worth “at least” $125 million.
That’s based on Nightengale’s chatter with executives who, in turn, are likely in on the recent wooing of Corbin. For what it’s worth, that’s also about what Yu Darvish got as last year’s top free agent pitcher, signing a six-year $126 million deal with the Cubs. So, nah, I don’t suppose that’s a terribly unreasonable range.
As for who might sign him, the Phillies, Nationals and Yankees are the teams most frequently mentioned as favorites. The chatter is that Corbin will sign pretty soon, possibly as early as this week.
