Stephen Drew ends hitless drought after 29 at-bats

Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew entered Friday’s game against the Yankees mired in an 0-for-27 slump, having notched his last hit on June 17 with a second-inning double off of Twins starter Phil Hughes. Drew went hitless in his first two at-bats, but hit a ground-rule double to left field in the seventh inning against reliever Dellin Betances, ending the hitless drought after 29 at-bats.

During the drought, Drew reached base only once on an error. He was not able to work a walk or even get hit by a pitch.

Drew, signed by the Red Sox to a prorated one-year, $14.1 million deal on May 20, is slashing a putrid .135/.167/.192 in 54 plate appearances since making his season debut on June 2.
