The Pirates will call up pitching prospect Tyler Glasnow from Triple-A Indianapolis to start on Thursday afternoon against the Cardinals, ESPN’s Buster Olney reports. As Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review explains, the Pirates’ decision is influenced by starter Jon Niese’s balky left knee. Niese has been bumped back to start on Sunday versus the Cubs.

Glasnow, 22, is considered the Pirates’ best prospect and eighth overall in baseball according to MLB Pipeline. The 6'8" right-hander compiled a 7-2 record with a 1.78 ERA and a 113/52 K/BB ratio in 96 innings spanning 17 starts with Indianapolis.
