Angels outfielder Vernon Wells has made significant progress this weekend in his rehabilitation from a strained muscle in his right groin.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Wells ran “the curve of the basepaths on the outfield grass at nearly full speed” on Saturday afternoon and also performed some agility drills.

Wells told Plunkett after the workout that he expects to begin taking batting practice within the next few days. A rehab assignment would soon follow.

“It felt really good,” Wells said Saturday. “It’s hard to tell right now – my lower half is sore from all the work we’ve been doing. But – so far, so good. It’s responded well to everything we’ve done. ... I’d like to be playing on the next homestand.”

Wells has been sidelined since May 9. He’s aiming to return to the Angels’ lineup in about 10 days.
