White Sox release Scott Downs

Scott Downs White Sox

Left-hander Scott Downs predictably passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and the White Sox have released the veteran reliever.

Chicago is on the hook for the entirety of his $4.25 million contract, so now that Downs is available for the MLB minimum salary expect the 38-year-old to draw some interest as a free agent.

He struggled with the White Sox, but Downs had a 2.49 ERA in 43 innings for the Braves and Angels last season and posted a sub-3.25 ERA every season from 2007-2013.
