Yankees vs. Orioles prediction: Odds, recent stats, trends, and best bets for August 19

The Yankees (70-55) and the Orioles (61-65) continue their three-game AL East series tonight at Camden Yards with New York looking to build on last night’s 3-1 victory and continue its push in the AL East.

Last night New York rode another night of exceptionally strong pitching and just enough offense to victory. A tightly contested game turned in the third inning when Trent Grisham broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run off Orioles’ starter Shane Baz. Baltimore answered later in the inning when Coby Mayo connected for a solo homer of his own against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón, evening the score at 1-1. The Orioles loaded the bases in the second inning, but were unable to capitalize. That missed chance proved costly as the pitchers in pinstripes settled in and rolled from there. The Yankees ultimately broke the tie later in the game and leaned on their bullpen to secure the victory.

New York sends right-hander Will Warren (8-6, 4.42 ERA) to the mound for the second game of the series tonight. Warren was most assuredly headed to the bullpen following the activation of Rodon from the disabled list, but the injury to Max Fried (bone bruise) offers him another opportunity. Last Wednesday, Warren was shelled by Seattle allowing five runs on six hits over just four innings. Baltimore counters with veteran right-hander Chris Bassitt (4-4, 5.11 ERA), who enters with a 4-4 record and 5.11 ERA. Bassitt has appeared in just two games since the end of May pitching a total of 8.1 innings and allowing five earned runs.
