The move protects him from December’s Rule 5 Draft. Bucci, 22, has a 3.76 ERA over five seasons in pro ball and is considered to have one of the best arms in the organization. He was limited to just 42 2/3 innings this season after a shoulder injury, but recently participated in the Arizona Fall League.

Bucci missed a large chunk of the 2012 season with a lat strain and wants to focus on getting healthy this spring in Brewers camp. The 22-year-old right-hander posted a 1.90 ERA and 9.3 K/9 across 42 2/3 innings last summer between rookie ball and High-A Brevard County.
