Fry

Fry will augment San Diego’s organizational relief depth heading into the season. The 31-year-old southpaw last appeared in the big leagues for the Diamondbacks and Orioles when he made 13 relief appearances during the 2022 campaign.

Fry split last season between the Orioles and Diamondbacks, making just 13 relief appearances combined, finishing with a bloated 6.23 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 14/9 K/BB ratio across 13 innings. The 30-year-old southpaw gives the Blue Jays some additional left-handed relief depth and will compete for a spot on Toronto’s Opening Day roster this spring in the Grapefruit League.

The 30-year-old southpaw was disastrous in his time at the big league level in 2022, posting a 6.08 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 60/35 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings between the Orioles and the Diamondbacks. Still, he’s just one season removed from being a valuable late-inning weapon, so there are likely still teams willing to take a shot on him -- albeit on a minor league deal.

Fry passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with Arizona as organizational relief depth. The 30-year-old lefty has compiled an underwhelming 6.23 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 14/9 K/BB ratio over 13 innings (13 appearances) this season between the Diamondbacks and Orioles.

The Diamondbacks needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster to promote Stone Garrett on Wednesday and it looks like the 30-year-old southpaw was the odd-man out this time around. Fry has registered a troublesome 6.23 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 14/9 K/BB ratio over 13 innings between the Orioles and Diamondbacks on the season. There’s a decent chance he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as bullpen depth for the D’Backs.

He’s not actually going to report to Triple-A Reno, he will remain with the big league club on the taxi squad, so expect that he’ll return to the club sooner rather than later. The 29-year-old southpaw holds an uninspiring 6.23 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 14/9 K/BB ratio over 13 innings on the season.

Fry was acquired from the Orioles a few weeks ago and will now get his first look in a D-backs uniform. The veteran left-handed reliever has struggled to a 6.07 ERA over his last 64 major league appearances (59 1/3 innings) dating back to the beginning of the 2021 regular season.

The 29-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment by the Orioles earlier in the week. The Diamondbacks immediately optioned him to Triple-A Reno where he’ll function as added bullpen depth. Fry posted a 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12/7 K/BB ratio over 12 innings with the Orioles.

Fry has been removed from the Orioles’ 40-man roster to make room for righty Beau Sulser, who was claimed off waivers from the Pirates. The 29-year-old left has allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits with a 12/7 K/BB ratio across 12 innings (12 appearances) this season. There should be some interest on waivers.

The avalanche of moves continues for the Orioles ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Cardinals. Fry has been jettisoned to the minors to make room for infielder Rylan Bannon to be recalled and start at third base in this one. The 29-year-old left has allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits with a 12/7 K/BB ratio across 12 innings (12 appearances) this season.
