Cardinals signed 3B/2B Ramón Urías to a one-year, $2 million contract with a mutual option for 2027.
The deal, which includes an additional $2 million in playing time incentives, is now official. Urías heads to St. Louis as a natural southpaw-mashing platoon partner at the hot corner for left-handed slugger Nolan Gorman. The 31-year-old veteran batted .241/.292/.384 with 11 homers and three steals in 391 plate appearances between the Astros and Orioles last year. He remained effective against left-handed pitching, posting a solid .743 OPS. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Cardinals are in agreement with Ramón Urías on a one-year, $2 million contract.
Rosenthal’s report with the exact financial terms comes after Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reported on Friday that the two sides were working on a deal. He adds that the deal includes a mutual option for 2027 and an additional $2 million in playing time incentives. The 31-year-old southpaw-masher provides the Cardinals with a short-term stopgap at the hot corner to pair with lefty slugger Nolan Gorman. His arrival further clarifies that the club envisions top prospect JJ Wetherholt at second base, if he’s going to make the Opening Day roster.

    Astros non-tendered INF Ramón Urías.
Urías was designated for assignment Tuesday, so the writing was on the wall. The 31-year-old has been a solid option against lefties and play multiple infield positions, so there should be interest on the market.

Astros designated INF Ramón Urías for assignment.
Urías came over from the Orioles at the trade deadline as Houston attempted to make a late-season playoff push. The 31-year-old lefty-mashing veteran offers some appeal in a reserve role for a contender, but he’s no longer an everyday regular at this stage of his career.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña (oblique) remains out of the lineup for the third straight game on Wednesday against the Athletics.
Peña remains without a clear return timetable as he battles a lingering left oblique issue. The 28-year-old top-of-the-order table-setter’s absence has some serious ramifications for the Astros who sit one game behind the Mariners in the AL West and also trail the Tigers and Guardians by a game for the final AL Wild Card playoff spot. It’ll be Carlos Correa taking over at shortstop in his ongoing absence with Ramón Urías at the hot corner in this one.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve is on the bench for Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays.
It appears to be a routine off day for Altuve, who is mired in a 2-for-29 slump over his last seven games. It’ll be Ramón Urías taking over at the keystone in his absence.

Ramón Urías went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a win over the Angels on Monday.
Urías has started three of the last five games at second base and is now 18-for-60 in 21 games since coming to the Astros at the trade deadline. He has 10 home runs and 40 RBI on the season and could be an intriguing deep-league option if he can start to take some playing time away from Mauricio Dubon.

Ramón Urías drove in the game-winning run on a fielder’s choice in the 11th inning to give the Astros a 5-4 win over the Orioles on Saturday in 11 innings.
Urias hit a ground ball with runners on first and third, and Baltimore was unable to turn the double play, so Houston get the win. Some potentially sweet revenge for a player who was a member of the Orioles until the deadline. He also went 0-for-6 in the game with two strikeouts, so this was the only silver lining to the effort. Urias should remain in a utility role with Houston for the foreseeable future.

Ramón Urías went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double Monday as the Astros held off the Red Sox 7-6.
The homer off Jordan Hicks was Urías’s first through seven games with the Astros and ninth in 84 games overall this year. He’s strictly a part-timer in Houston, but he should be stealing away a bunch of Mauricio Dubón’s infield playing time.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña (hamstring) is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
Peña will get some extra time off to rest and recover during Saturday afternoon’s game at Fenway Park after making an early exit from Friday’s extra-inning marathon with a right hamstring cramp. The 27-year-old went 3-for-5 in his return from the injured list after missing five weeks with a fractured rib. It’ll be Carlos Correa taking over at shortstop in his absence with Ramón Urías taking over at the hot corner. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.
