Marinaccio was designated for assignment by the Reds on Monday and opted for free agency after clearing waivers. Marinaccio heads to the open market instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville. The 31-year-old has pitched for three different clubs this season. DFA’ed by the Padres a few weeks ago, Marinaccio spent a little over a week with the Pirates before being DFA’ed again after the Pirates acquired a whole new bullpen at the deadline. He brings a 4.99 ERA to the back of the Reds pen — the main culprit this year is 10 homers allowed in just 52 1/3 innings pitched.

Ron Marinaccio has received a three-game suspension for intentionally hitting Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson with a pitch over the weekend.

Marinaccio has elected to appeal the suspension and will continue pitching until that process unfolds. Padres manager Craig Stammen has also been handed a one-game suspension, which he will serve during Monday’s series opener against the Cardinals. Marinaccio plunked Henderson during the ninth inning of Saturday’s game, which led to him being tossed from the contest.
