The expectation had already been that Burr would miss the remainder of the season due to his right rotator cuff strain after he was placed directly on the 60-day injured list last week, but now it’s official. No timetable from the Jays yet on how long his recovery will take.

You know it’s bad when the team skips over the 15-day injured list and places a player directly onto the 60-day IL. Burr suffered the injury during Wednesday’s outing against the White Sox. It sounds like he may be shelved for the remainder of the regular season, though technically he would be eligible to return in mid-September. Tommy Nance was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place in the Jays’ bullpen.

Burr will undergo an MRI later this week in Toronto to determine the extent of the injury. It feels like a virtual lock that he’ll wind up back on the injured list. The 31-year-old was lifted from his second appearance of the season after recording only two outs. He missed the first three months of the year with shoulder inflammation.

Burr has been on the IL all season with shoulder inflammation. He gave up one run and walked two in his inning for Triple-A Buffalo yesterday.

Burr opened the year on the shelf with shoulder inflammation and won’t be eligible to return until late May. The procedural move frees up a spot on Toronto’s 40-man roster.

The move is retroactive to March 24, but Burr has not yet begun throwing. It’s unclear when he will return to the Blue Jays bullpen.

The Blue Jays will use a bullpen game on Monday with Chris Bassitt starting on Tuesday and Bowden Francis going on Wednesday. Burr is not on the fantasy radar.

Yarbrough has appeared in four games since coming to the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, posting a 6.35 ERA in 5 2/3 innings. Even so, he could be an option in deeper formats against a weak Angels lineup on Thursday.

Burr, who was just optioned to the minors on Friday afternoon, rejoins Toronto’s bullpen ahead of Saturday’s game against the Rangers following the club’s decision to trade Nate Pearson to Chicago. The 30-year-old righty has made 10 relief appearances this season for the Blue Jays.
