    Doumit is hitting .500 with 10 RBI in 32 at-bats this month. He’ll keep getting more starts over Humberto Cota.

    Doumit will likely play a few games with Bradenton of the Gulf Coast League this week. If he can stay healthy the Pirates might activate him from the disabled list by late August.

    He also threw out the only baserunner who tried to steal against him. Doumit is going to have to catch in order to have any sort of role after Sean Casey comes off the disabled list on Monday, but manager Jim Tracy strongly prefers Ronny Paulino behind the plate. It’s possible that Doumit will head to the minors.

    Doumit spent three weeks on the DL earlier this season with a strain to the same hamstring. The club expects to know more about the injury on Monday, but manager Jim Tracy indicated that he thought a DL stint was likely.

    An MRI today revealed a more serious strain than the one that sidelined him for three weeks earlier this season. Doumit will begin his rehab later this week, but manager Jim Tracy suggested a six to eight week recovery.

    Doumit is back a little earlier than expected after the Jose Hernandez trade opened up a rostre spot. He’ll serve as a backup catcher and occasional first baseman. NL-only leaguers in need of a catcher could do worse.
