Sam Huff elected free agency after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
Huff is expected to re-sign with the Orioles, so it appears to just be a little financial incentive for him to elect free agency rather than report straight back to Triple-A. The 28-year-old will be a depth piece for Baltimore, and need to be added to the 40-man roster to join the Orioles.

Orioles designated C Sam Huff for assignment.
Huff’s services are no longer required in Baltimore with Adley Rutschman coming off the 10-day injured list from his ankle injury. The former top prospect will hit the waiver wire, and he’ll have a choice to report back to Norfolk or hit free agency if he’s unclaimed.

Orioles selected the contract of C Sam Huff from Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles already have two catches on their roster, but Maverick Handley hasn’t played since being called up on Saturday. Perhaps Huff will fill in as the backup catcher or be more of a DH option now that Ryan Mountcastle (foot) is out.

Orioles signed C Sam Huff to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 28-year-old hit .208/.259/.340 with two home runs, four RBI, and a 25/4 K/BB ratio across 58 plate appearances for the Giants last season. The former top prospect is just organizational catching depth at this point.

Giants C Sam Huff has elected free agency.
Huff, 27, appeared in 20 games with the Giants during the 2025 campaign, slashing .208/.259/.340 with a pair of homers, four RBI and a 25/4 K/BB ratio across 58 plate appearances. He’ll look to find an opportunity where he can compete for a reserve role on a team’s big league roster.

Giants sent C Sam Huff outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Huff went unclaimed on waivers after being jettisoned from San Francisco’s active roster earlier this week. The 27-year-old former prospect hit just .208 (11-for-53) with two homers and four RBI over 20 games with the Giants. He also struck out 25 times in 58 plate appearances during that span. He’ll remain with the club as organizational catching depth.

Giants designated C Sam Huff for assignment
Huff is removed from the active and 40-man roster after slashing just 208/.259/.340 in his time with San Francisco. Considering his age and roster pedigree there’s a chance he is claimed, but if not, he’ll likely report back to Triple-A Sacramento.

Sam Huff crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Giants past the Angels.
Huff victimized Brock Burke for his two-out, 397-foot (102.1 mph EV) two-run blast, giving the Giants a 3-1 lead. The 27-year-old backstop also singled, walked and struck out in the ballgame, finishing the day 2-for-3. On the season, he’s slashing .190/.292/.333 with just the one long ball and two RBI.

Patrick Bailey is not in the starting lineup for Saturday against the Yankees.
Bailey also got Saturday off last week, so maybe this will be his day of rest for 2025. Sam Huff is catching and will hit eighth.

Patrick Bailey is not in the lineup against the Mariners on Saturday.
Bailey went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored during Friday’s extra-innings win, and his reward is a day off against Bryce Miller and the Mariners. Sam Huff will catch in Bailey’s absence.
