Rangers signed INF Santiago Espinal to a minor league contract.

Espinal elected free agency from the Dodgers in mid-June after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 31-year-old hit .268 (15-for-56) with one home run and seven RBI in 31 games during his time with the Dodgers. He’ll add quality infield depth for the Rangers and should get an opportunity with the big league club in relatively short order.

Dodgers sent INF Santiago Espinal outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Once again, Espinal was designated for assignment and passed through waivers unclaimed. He lost his spot on the roster this time around due to the return of Tommy Edman. The 31-year-old infielder will continue to function as extra depth for the Dodgers at the Triple-A level.

Espinal loses his roster spot with Los Angeles in the wake of Tommy Edman returning from the injured list. The 31-year-old hit .268 (15-for-56) with one homer and seven RBI in 31 games for the Dodgers this season. He’ll likely stick around at Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers.

Santiago Espinal went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Friday’s loss to the White Sox.

Espinal singled in the second inning off of Anthony Kay to put the Dodgers up 2-0. It would be the only two runs the Dodgers would score on the day, as Kay and the White Sox’s bullpen held the Dodgers to just four total hits on the day while allowing only one walk. Espinal served as the Dodgers’ designated hitter on Friday with Shohei Ohtani (knee) out of the lineup. If Ohtani returns to the lineup on Saturday, Espinal will likely be returned to the bench.

Shohei Ohtani (knee) is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the White Sox.

Ohtani was removed from Thursday’s game as a precautionary measure due to inflammation in his left knee. The Dodgers have opted to take a very cautious approach here with their two-way superstar and will give him at least an extra night off to rest. Santiago Espinal will fill in as the Dodgers’ designated hitter on Friday and will bat eighth against Anthony Kay and the White Sox.

Max Muncy (nose) is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Angels.

That was the expectation all along after Muncy exited Thursday’s game following a violent collision with Ildemaro Vargas at first base. Fortunately, he avoided any serious injuries. The 35-year-old slugger is expected to return to the Dodgers’ lineup on Saturday. Santiago Espinal will start in his place at third base and bat ninth against Angels’ left-hander Reid Detmers on Friday evening.

Dodgers selected the contract of INF Santiago Espinal from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Just one day after Espinal was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, he rejoins the Dodgers to replace the slumping Hyeseong Kim. Espinal will once again serve in a reserve infielder role and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Espinal had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He passed through waivers unclaimed though and has accepted his outright assignment. He’ll continue to serve as extra infield depth for the Dodgers at the Triple-A level.

Dodgers designated INF Santiago Espinal for assignment.

Espinal loses his roster spot with Enrique Hernández returning from the injured list after hitting just .220 (9-for-41) with one homer and four RBI in 44 plate appearances over 26 games.. The 31-year-old was a surprise addition to Los Angeles’ season-opening roster as a non-roster invitee during spring training. He’s bounced around the last couple years as a bench infielder.

Max Muncy (wrist) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Brewers.

The positive news is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures after Muncy was hit by a 95-mph sinker off his right wrist during Friday’s series opener. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters afterwards that he’ll receive a couple days off to rest and recover, but it sounds like he managed to avoid serious injury. It’ll be Santiago Espinal taking over at third base this weekend.
