Steven Kwan swatted a pair of two-run homers Monday in the Guardians’ 6-2 defeat of the Royals.
Kwan had totaled two homers in 98 career spring training games prior to today, when he took Ryan Bergert and Nick Mears deep in back-to-back at-bats. The 28-year-old appeared to be a likely choice to replace Corbin Carroll on Team USA’s WBC roster before Roman Anthony got the nod instead. He’s 6-for-21 this spring.
  • CLE Outfield #38
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said the team will test out Steven Kwan in center field for a potential position change.
Kwan is a Gold Glove winner in left field, but moving to center field could help the Guardians put their best offense on the field. That would open up left field for George Valera with Chase DeLauter playing right field. All three bat left-handed, so the alignment would obviously change versus left-handed pitchers, but this feels like a likely outcome if Kwan looks good enough in center field.
  • DET Outfield #31
A source told MLB Network’s Jon Morosi that Riley Greene, Steven Kwan, Tyler Soderstrom, Roman Anthony, James Wood, Wyatt Langford and Kyle Stowers are under consideration for Corbin Carroll’s spot on Team USA’s WBC roster.
Greene would be an interesting choice; he was invited to play for Puerto Rico in the tournament but decided to turn down the opportunity. Given that Team USA has Aaron Judge in right and Byron Buxton and Pete Crow-Armstong in center, replacing Carroll with a natural left fielder makes sense. Anthony might be the most fun option, but Kwan would make a lot of sense with his contact ability and plus defense.

Guardians signed OF Steven Kwan to a one-year, $7.725 million deal to avoid arbitration.
Kwan won a Gold Glove this year and hit .272/.330/.374 with 11 home runs and 21 steals in 156 games. His modest power surge from 2024 didn’t quite carry over, nor did his nearly .300 batting average, but he tied his career high in steals and remains a very solid outfielder.
  • BOS Outfield #3
Red Sox outfielder mates Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu were among the Rawlings Gold Glove winners announced Sunday.
Those two are joined by Steven Kwan in the outfield. Other AL winners include pitcher Max Fried, catcher Dillon Dingler, first baseman Ty France, second baseman Marcus Semien, third baseman Maikel Garcia, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and utilityman Mauricio Dubón. Semien getting the nod over Andrés Giménez seems like the biggest upset, though Giménez, who won the previous three years, did miss a bunch of time. Dingler over Alejandro Kirk also rates as a modest surprise.

Steven Kwan went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored on Tuesday night, leading the Guardians to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers — pulling them even in the race for the American League Central with just five games to play.
Kwan started a three-run rally in the sixth inning with a bunt single off of Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal. He ultimately scored on an infield single off the bat of Jose Ramirez. Kwan then doubled with two outs in the seventh inning and scored on a two-run single by Daniel Schneemann. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old is now hitting .277/.336/.383 with 11 homers, 55 RBI and 21 stolen bases across 672 plate appearances.

Steven Kwan knocked in four runs with a pair of singles in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Twins.
Kwan also had two hits, a walk and a steal in the first game today, though despite reaching five times in total, he never did score a run today. The four-RBI game was the fourth of his career.

Steven Kwan went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI against the Rays on Friday.
Kwan was on base three times and scored twice against the Rays on Friday. The 28-year-old outfielder is a solid producer with a .274 average, 70 runs scored, 10 home runs, 14 steals and 46 RBI. Kwan’s average is down from his .292 average last year and that’s stopped him from having a repeat of last year.

Steven Kwan went 3-for-5 with an RBI on Wednesday, leading the Guardians to an 8-1 win over the Red Sox.
Kwan spearheaded a relentless offensive onslaught against Boston’s bullpen in this one as they scored seven runs over the first two frames to ostensibly put the contest away early. The 27-year-old table-setter, who has been mired in a weeks-long tailspin at the dish, reached base safely in three of his five plate appearances out of the leadoff spot. It’s encouraging to see some signs of life.

While his teammates were combining to put up seven runs, Steven Kwan went 0-for-5 as the Guardians’ leadoff man Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Kwan’s slump is over two months old at this point, and it’s actually getting worse; in his last 13 games, he is batting .189 and is even 0-for-2 stealing bases. Playing through an injury would seem to be the obvious explanation, because it’d be very discouraging if he were performing like this while healthy.
