Tigers selected the contracts of C Thayron Liranzo, 2B Hao-Yu Lee, Trei Cruz, Eduardo Valencia and Jake Miller from Triple-A Toledo.
Among the top prospects in Detroit’s system entering next season, Liranzo and Lee aren’t quite ready to reach the big leagues, but they have a chance to make an impact for fantasy managers at relatively shallow position groups down the road.

Tigers reassigned C Thayron Liranzo and 2B Hao-Yu Lee to minor league camp.
Among the top prospects in Detroit’s system, Liranzo and Lee are still a hyperspace jump away from the big leagues, but they’re going to make an impact for fantasy managers at relatively shallow position groups. Liranzo is the name to watch in dynasty leagues after taking home Arizona Fall League MVP honors a couple months ago. He came over last August from the Dodgers in the Jack Flaherty trade, which is looking like an extremely savvy swap by Detroit’s front office.

Tigers C prospect Thayron Liranzo was named the MVP of the Arizona Fall League’s annual Fall Stars Game.
Liranzo took home MVP honors after blasting a tie-breaking moonshot to right field during the ninth inning of Sunday’s All-Star showcase in the desert. The 21-year-old backstop, who was the centerpiece of the Jack Flaherty deal with the Dodgers back in August, has made some serious noise in the AFL this fall, batting .326 with one homer in 14 contests, after posting a 1.031 OPS in 26 contests for High-A West Michigan following the trade. He’s quickly becoming one of the better catching prospects in the game, but it might be a long shot for him to reach the majors during the 2025 campaign. He’s a name to watch.

Thayron Liranzo went 4-for-5 with a homer and two doubles for Scottsdale in Thursday’s AFL action.
The 21-year-old Liranzo excelled offensively after joining the Tigers organization in the Jack Flaherty trade, hitting .315/.470/.562 in 26 games for high-A West Michigan. He’s still a work in progress behind the plate, but the bat might be there for him to play first if it’s decided he needs to move.
  • Tigers acquired C Thayron Liranzo and SS Trey Sweeney from the Dodgers for RHP Jack Flaherty.
Liranzo was the No. 70 prospect on Baseball Prospectus’ preseason top 100 prospects list. The 21-year-old catcher appeared at this summer’s Futures Game. He’s hitting .220 with a .700 OPS, seven home runs and 30 RBI in 74 games at the High-A level this year.
