Tommy Edman (ankle) went 0-for-4 with a walk on Friday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Edman is hitting .292 (7-for-24) with two homers across seven games on his rehab assignment. It’s notable that he’s logged time at four different spots, including second and third base, along with left and center field. The 31-year-old’s versatility remains his signature calling card but he figures to spend most of his time between second base and left field once he’s back with the Dodgers.

Tommy Edman (ankle) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
Edman has now gone 6-for-16 in five games at Triple-A as he works back from offseason ankle surgery. He has one home run over that time as well, but has not attempted a single stolen base. Obviously, much of Edman’s previous fantasy value has come from his speed, and how often he runs post-ankle surgery will be a major question that could determine whether he’s worth adding off your waiver wires.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Rockies with a left hamstring strain.
It seems like a possibility that Hernández will require a trip to the injured list, depending on the severity. The 33-year-old veteran slugger suffered the injury while attempting to beat out attempting to beat out a second-inning grounder. He was replaced in left field by Hyeseong Kim. There should be some additional clarity on his status prior to Friday’s series opener against the Phillies. There’s no shortage of options for the Dodgers in the upper minors with Ryan Ward and Alek Thomas representing in-house options already on the 40-man roster while prospect James Tibbs III might be a consideration as a potential solution. Tommy Edman (ankle) is at least another week or two away from returning from the injured list.

Tommy Edman (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Edman is ready to get back into game action as he continues working his way back from offseason ankle surgery. The versatile 31-year-old will likely require a couple weeks of tune-up contests to get back up to speed after such an extended layoff. It seems highly likely he’ll be ready to make his season debut at some point in early-to-mid June.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tommy Edman (ankle) could start facing live pitching next week.
Roberts added that Edman could head out of a minor league rehab assignment afterwards. The 31-year-old outfielder has been on the shelf since spring training working his way back from offseason ankle surgery. It sounds like he’ll be ready to make his season debut at some point in June.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Dodgers transferred 2B/OF Tommy Edman to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move doesn’t change Edman’s return timetable as he continues to work his way back from offseason ankle surgery. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said earlier this week that they’re going to pull back on his ramp-up process after he experienced some soreness recently. The versatile 31-year-old is unlikely to make his season debut until some point in June.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Tommy Edman (ankle) is still dealing with residual soreness.
The Dodgers aren’t in a rush to get Edman back from the injured list so they’re going to take their foot off the metaphorical gas pedal and slow down his ramp-up process. The versatile 30-year-old is working his way back from offseason ankle surgery and is unlikely to make his season debut until some point in June.

Tommy Edman (ankle) is one of the hitters facing Blake Snell in Snell’s live bullpen session.
Edman, 30, underwent ankle surgery after the World Series, and isn’t expected to be ready until May. Still, it’s a positive sign in the progression that he’ll face Snell, and he appears to be keeping track with that timeline.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Dodgers placed INF-OF Tommy Edman on the 10-day injured list following ankle surgery.
When Edman had his surgery after the World Series, Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes indicated that he should be ready around the start of spring training. It’s not clear exactly what changed afterwards, but now Edman is going to miss the first two months or so, even though he’s been hitting for weeks. The Dodgers will use Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas at second base in his place.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters he hopes Blake Snell (shoulder) and Tommy Edman (ankle) return before the end of May.
It sounds like the Dodgers are planning to bring Snell along extremely slowly over the next two months as he gradually builds up his pitch count and stamina until he’s ready to make his season debut at some point in May. He’s been working his way back from a shoulder injury that put him behind the rest of the rotation earlier in camp. The same goes for Edman, who is still working his way back from offseason ankle surgery, and didn’t end up appearing in any spring training contests.
