Nationals reassigned RHP Trevor Gott, and INFs Seaver King, Trey Lipscomb, and 1B Matt Mervis to minor league camp.
Gott, Lipscomb, and Mervis all have prior MLB experience but were unable to win an Opening Day job with the Nationals. As a 33-year-old veteran, Gott has no more minor league options remaining, so it remains to be seen where he goes from here. Seaver King is the Nationals’ 5th-ranked prospect and is coming off a strong Arizona Fall League season. He was 6-for-16 in MLB spring training with five singles and a stolen base, and he will now either head to Double-A or Triple-A to try and continue his strong run of production.

Trey Lipscomb went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a walk as a Nationals split-squad topped the Cardinals 6-2 on Saturday.
Lipscomb, who broke out at this time two years ago, is in Nationals camp as a non-roster player after clearing waivers back in November. The Nationals don’t have an established third baseman and might slide Luis García Jr. from second to first, so there’s opportunity for Lipscomb to come away with a job with a big March. Last year’s .249/.305/.392 line in Triple-A doesn’t bode well, however.

Nationals sent INF Trey Lipscomb outright to Triple-A Rochester.
Lipscomb, a 2022 third-round pick, got high praise from the Nationals going into the 2024 season and won a roster spot after just 152 games as a pro. Unfortunately, he’s mostly struggled since; he wound up hitting .200/.268/.232 in 61 major league games that season and he finished at .249/.305/.392 in Triple-A in 2025. He’s still just 25, but no one deemed him worth claiming off waivers. It’s his first outright assignment, so he’ll remain with the Nationals.

Nationals optioned INF Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester.
With Luis García Jr. back from paternity leave, the Nationals will send Lipscomb back to Triple-A. It’s not likely to be his last trip between the two clubs.
  • WSH 3rd Baseman #38
Nationals recalled INF/OF Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester.
Lipscomb was up briefly last month and went 2-for-4. The 25-year-old is being groomed as a utility player by the Nationals; he’s started at least four games at first, second, third and in left field while hitting .283/.362/.380 in Triple-A this season.

Nationals optioned INF Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester.
Lipscomb heads back to the International League with CJ Abrams (hip) back from the injured list. Lipscomb will likely be up and down throughout the 2025 campaign whenever the Nats need infield depth.
  • WSH 3rd Baseman #38
Trey Lipscomb went 2-for-4 and scored a run as the Nationals triumphed over the Rockies 3-2 in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Lipscomb reached on an infield single and came around to score on a throwing error during the Nationals’ three-run uprising off of Kyle Freeland in the second inning. He also singled with two outs in the fourth inning but wound up getting stranded there. The 24-year-old infielder is seeing sporadic playing time with the big league club while Paul DeJong (nose) is sidelined but is unlikely to make a major impact from a fantasy perspective.

Nationals recalled 3B Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester.
With Paul DeJong (broken nose) landing on the IL, Lipscomb will be called up to take his place. The 24-year-old is hitting .295/.392/.386 in 13 games at Triple-A with one home run, seven RBI and two steals. He’s also striking out a career-high 25.5 percent of the time. It will either be him or Amed Rosario getting regular starts with DeJong out.

Nationals placed INF Paul DeJong on the 10-day injured list with a fractured nose.
DeJong was hit in the face by a pitch Tuesday night and will now be shut down for a while. Amed Rosario took his place in the lineup on Tuesday and started at third base on Saturday and Sunday, so he could get the first look to replace DeJong. However, the team recalled Trey Lipscomb on Wednesday, so it remains to be seen what direction they go in.

Nationals optioned 3B Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester.
Lipscomb put together a decent spring, but the Nationals are rolling with veteran Paul DeJong at the hot corner to open the regular season. The 24-year-old slashed .200/.268/.232 with one homer and 11 steals in 211 plate appearances last year in the big leagues.
