Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners scouted Cardinals’ prospect right-hander Tyrell Jenkins on Monday night.
It’s not known whether the two teams are in active discussions, but Rosenthal notes that the Cardinals are monitoring the market for both starting pitchers and relievers and named Mariners’ left-hander Jason Vargas as a potential target. The Mariners are also reportedly shopping Kevin Millwood and Brandon League. Jenkins, a supplemental first-round pick in 2010, has a 5.13 ERA and 54/28 K/BB ratio in 58 innings across 13 starts with Class A Quad Cities this season.

Cardinals prospect Tyrell Jenkins is scheduled to see a second doctor about his right shoulder.
Jenkins was diagnosed Saturday with a strained right lat, but there’s now a fear that the injury might be worse. The 20-year-old is done for the season no matter what. He wound up with a 5.14 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 80/36 K/BB ratio in 82 1/3 innings at Low-A Quad Cities.

Cardinals pitching prospect Tyrell Jenkins (shoulder) is expected to resume throwing in three weeks.
Jenkins’ shoulder strain is a bit more severe than originally thought, but it doesn’t appear to be a major concern. He’s done for the year but should be able to have a relatively normal offseason.

Cardinals’ prospect Tyrell Jenkins has been diagnosed with a strained right lat and is out for the season.
Jenkins was removed from his start Friday with shoulder discomfort, and won’t be re-evaluated before the regular season comes to a close. A supplemental pick in 2010, Jenkins will finish the year with a disappointing 5.14 ERA in 14 starts with Low-A Quad Cities. Baseball America ranked him as the Cardinals’ No. 6 prospect prior to the 2012 season.

Cardinals pitching prospect Tyrell Jenkins revealed via Twitter Friday that an exam on his pitching shoulder came back clean.
Jenkins tweeted that “everything’s OK” and that he’ll be back “very very soon.” It’s a relief for the Cards, especially after he dealt with a shoulder issue last season, as well. Ranked by Baseball America prior to the season as the club’s No. 8 prospect, Jenkins holds a 4.74 ERA at Peoria this season.

Tyrell Jenkins was hammered for seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings as the Braves fell to the Rockies on Sunday.
Jenkins walked five and gave up eight hits, including three home runs. The rookie right-hander now has a 6.17 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over his first 23 1/3 major league innings. Maybe he should return to a relief role.

Tyrell Jenkins got sliced and diced for nine runs in only 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Nationals on Saturday.
He gave up three home runs as his ERA rose to a miserable 6.20 on the season. He has fanned only 24 batters while issuing a whopping 32 free passes in 49 1/3 innings. He put up a 2.91 ERA in 65 innings at Triple-A earlier this season but has not been able to translate that into success at the major league level.

Braves optioned RHP Tyrell Jenkins to Triple-A Gwinnett.
The move comes after he was blasted for nine runs over just 3 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Nationals. The Braves were probably going to need to limit Jenkins’ innings at some point, anyway. When he returns it’s possible it will be as a reliever.

John Gant exited Monday’s start against the Indians after two innings due to a left oblique strain.
Gant gave up one run on three hits before being replaced by Tyrell Jenkins. He’s scheduled to be re-evaluated Tuesday, but a trip to the disabled list is likely in his future.
