Rockies transferred LHP Welinton Herrera to the 60-day injured list.

Herrera’s season is over after being diagnosed with a torn UCL in his elbow. He suffered the injury just a few days after being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque last week. The 22-year-old is likely facing elbow surgery after tossing 2 1/3 scoreless frames over three appearances for the Rockies.

Rockies recalled LHP Welinton Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Herrera receives his first promotion to the big leagues after posting a 5.16 ERA and 34/14 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings for Triple-A Albuquerque this season. The 22-year-old southpaw figures to operate in middle relief for Colorado.

Rockies optioned LHPs Carson Palmquist, Luis Peralta and Welinton Herrera, RHP Gabriel Hughes and OF Sterlin Thompson to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Palmquist, 25, appeared in nine games for the Rockies in 2025 where he compiled an uninspiring 8.91 ERA and 2.04 WHIP across 34 1/3 innings. Given the Rockies’ overall lack of pitching depth, he’ll probably get another shot at the big league level at some point during the 2026 season.

Rockies selected the contracts of OF Sterlin Thompson, RHP Gabriel Hughes and LHP Welinton Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Colorado decided not to leave Thompson exposed after he batted .296/.392/.519 with 18 homers and 12 steals across 120 games in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this past season. The 24-year-old corner outfielder was the club’s first-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft and should enter spring training with a chance to win a roster spot.
