White Sox INF prospect William Bergola Jr. went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.
Through five games, Bergolla has gone 12-for-20 (.600) with three doubles, six RBI, three walks, and two stolen bases. The 21-year-old also hit .286/.342/.333 in 125 games at Double-A last year with 40 stolen bases. There is little power to speak of here, but Bergolla is a good defender up the middle and clearly has plenty of speed. If he can continue to get on base at a high rate, he could become an interesting fantasy player.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #82
White Sox reassigned LHP Hagen Smith, INFs Oliver Dunn, William Bergolla Jr., RHP Tyson Miller and OFs Dustin Harris and Dru Baker to minor league camp.
Smith is the notable inclusion here after an impressive Cactus League outings against the division-rival Royals over the weekend where he struck out five over two scoreless innings. The 22-year-old southpaw projects as an impactful fantasy contributor once he reaches the majors based on his stratospheric strikeouts rates throughout his career.
  • White Sox acquired INF William Bergola Jr. from the Phillies for LHP Tanner Banks.
Bergola was a top international signing out of Venezuela two years ago. He’s still just 19 years old and figures to take a few years before he’s ready to reach the majors. He’s a long-term investment for Chicago’s rebuilding system.
  • Phillies signed Venezuelan SS William Bergolla Jr.
The deal is official. Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com adds that Bergolla Jr. will receive a $2.2 million signing bonus. The 17-year-old son of former major-league infielder William Bergolla Sr., is the fourth-ranked international prospect in the signing class, according to MLB Pipeline. He’s expected to remain at shortstop long-term and is worth monitoring for fantasy managers in keeper and dynasty league formats.

  • Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that the Phillies and Venezuelan SS William Bergolla Jr. have agreed to a $2.2 million deal.
The son of former major-league infielder William Bergolla Sr., a minor-league journeyman who played 17 games for the Reds back in 2005, Bergolla Jr. will receive $2.2 million from the Phillies. The 17-year-old shortstop is the fourth-ranked international prospect in the signing class, according to MLB Pipeline, and has displayed a contact-oriented, line-drive approach at the plate. A talented defender, he projects to stick at shortstop long-term as well. He’s a prospect worth monitoring for fantasy managers in keeper and dynasty league formats.
