Daza

Daza underwent left shoulder surgery last June and was a long shot to find an opportunity this spring with a major league club. The 29-year-old contact-oriented outfielder will aim to rebuild his long-term value south of the border in 2023.

Daza was removed from the Rockies’ 40-man roster back in early May and will miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign.

Daza cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Friday. The 29-year-old will remain with the organization as depth.

With Brenton Doyle’s emergence and Randal Grichuk’s return, Daza was a victim of the numbers game. He can play all three outfield positions and has a strong arm, so he should draw some interest on waivers. The 29-year-old has hit .270/.304/.351 over 80 plate appearances this season.

Daza hasn’t gotten a start in a week, but at this point, it’s more because the Rockies want to give other players a chance than because of the hand contusion he suffered on an HBP. He’s likely to be a reserve for the foreseeable future.

It was prospect Brenton Doyle getting the call in Daza’s place for the third straight contest. The 29-year-old outfielder isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list, but it’s fair to wonder if the Rockies aren’t better off just rolling with Doyle in an everyday role moving forward.

Daza will sit out his second straight game due to a left hand contusion. It’ll be rookie Brenton Doyle making his second consecutive start on Tuesday evening in his absence.

No real shock here after Daza was hit by a pitch on the left hand during Sunday’s series finale against the Phillies. It’ll be prospect Brenton Doyle getting the nod in center field on Monday evening in his absence. The good news here is that he’s not expected to require a trip to the injured list.

X-rays came back negative, but Daza is expected to miss a couple games until the pain and swelling subside after being hit by a 96.5 mph fastball on the left hand. It’ll be prospect Brenton Doyle coming up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday to give Colorado some extra outfield depth.

Daza got to lead off in the team’s first three games, but he was dropped in the order with Jurickson Profar debuting today. It should be a full-time thing, and it’s probably for the best. He wound up 3-for-17 in the Rockies’ first series of the year.
