Torrealba

The Giants have already given Alberto Castillo a major league contract, so they could add Torrealba to any trade packages their putting together. The Brewers might be interested in him as part of a Richie Sexson deal.

Torrealba is on the bereavement list to be with his wife, who underwent successful surgery in Venezuela.

Alberto Castillo will be demoted once Torrealba returns.

Torrealba had three straight off days after a 2-for-14 slump, as the Rockies had the since departed J.D. Closser catch Tuesday and Danny Ardoin catch Wednesday before Thursday off. It seems excessive given just what Torrealba has provided since coming off the DL. He’s driven in 32 runs in 39 games.

Torrealba has struggled at the plate for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He has just two hits in 12 at-bats for the Sky Sox. “When he comes back we want him to be able to compete and make a difference (offensively),” manager Clint Hurdle said. “He didn’t have a spring training. He hasn’t played a lot.”

Torrealba is trying to get the timing down in his swing. He Miguel Ojeda or J.D. Closser could be sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs when he is activated.

The Rockies would send J.D. Closser back to the minors and activate Torrealba, who has been sidelined all year.

Torrealba hasn’t played for the Rockies since being acquired during the off-season. He will share the catching duties initially with JD Closser. Miguel Ojeda will likely be sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room for Torrealba.
