Cole Davies had to work a little harder in Moto 2 of the Washougal (Wash.) National, but not very much harder. He went over the holeshot line in fourth, passed Carson Mumford and Chance Hymas in the middle of the first lap, and Ryder DiFrancesco just before the second lap went up on the board. Davies went on to lead the remaining laps.
With a sweep of the motos, Davies was scored the overall winner.
DiFrancesco earned the holeshot and briefly had visions of the overall victory after finishing second in Moto 2. He didn’t allow Davies to completely disappear, but was forced to settle for second at the finish line. With results of second in both motos, DiFrancesco finished second overall.
Chance Hymas finished third in both motos for third overall. He earned his first moto win at Spring Creek last week and stood on the podium after overcoming a ninth-place finish in Moto 1. This was arguably his best effort of the season.
Carson Mumford stood on the podium in the second moto last week and carried the momentum into Washougal to finish fourth overall. In the middle stage of the race, it appeared Julien Beaumer was cutting into his advantage, but Mumford found additional speed.
Mumford’s fourth bettered his career-best of fifth earned last week.
Beaumer rounded out the top five.
Levi Kitchen had another poor start, although he kept his bike on both wheels through the first turns. Kitchen was outside of the top 10 on the first lap and slowly worked his way forward. Kitchen caught Beaumer near the end of the race, but could not complete the pass.
With sixth-place finishes in both motos, Kitchen was scored fifth overall.
Kitchen ended the day sixth and saw his points lead shrink to seven points.
Hunter Yoder had a great start, riding in second place during the opening lap. He was passed by Hymas before that circuit was completed. Yoder continued to fade and finished ninth in the moto.
Pierce Brown was caught up in the Turn 2 crash in Moto 1 and there was some question of whether he had reinjured his wrist, He mounted up for Moto 2 and was in the top 15 in the middle stage of the race.
Brown had a second crash during the moto, but held onto a 17th-place finish.
