A huge pileup in the first turn of Moto 1 in the Washougal (Wash.) National quickly made the 250 points battle interesting. Cole Davies earned the holeshot, avoided the carnage, and rode off to an uncontested victory.
Davies crossed the finish line more than 17 seconds ahead of Ryder DiFrancesco.
DiFrancesco was solid in qualification and he kept that speed alive by slotting into a comfortable position in second in the opening stage of the race. He knew the overall victory was still in his control if he could win Moto 2, so there was no reason to push too hard.
Chance Hymas started Lap 1 in fourth and then passed Daxton Bennick before the riders got back to the finish line. Last week was his best result of the season after winning Moto 2 of the Spring Creek National.
Carson Mumford earned an emotional podium in Moto 2 of last week’s Spring Creek National. He worked his way forward and passed Nate Thrasher with five minutes remaining on the clock.
The drama of the afternoon was provided by Davies’ teammate Landen Gordon. He crashed in Turn 1 and collected Levi Kitchen and Julien Beaumer. Both riders remounted and began the slow process of moving forward.
Beaumer led Kitchen through the field for the first half of the moto. They were in the top 25 by the end of Lap 1. The pair moved into points paying positions on Lap 2, and were up to the top 15 on Lap 4.
Kitchen passed Beaumer on Lap 6, when they came across Marshal Weltin.
Kitchen finally got into the top 10 on Lap 9; Beaumer followed on Lap 12.
Kitchen worked his way to sixth on Lap 14 with a gap of nearly nine seconds to Mumford and the top five. That was as far as Kitchen could get.
Beaumer finished eighth.
