Haiden Deegan (2:08.222) posted the fastest time in the first qualification session for the Washougal (Wash.) National in Round 25 of the SuperMotocross Championship (SMX). His time held up for the fastest overall. Deegan was second-fastest in Q2, 1.4 seconds slower than Jett Lawrence.
Jett was fastest in the second session with a speed of 2:08.701 when track conditions were more akin to what riders will face during the race. That bettered his Q1 time, but he nonetheless slotted into third overall.
Garrett Marchbanks (2:08.501) was good enough for third overall. Marchbanks crashed in Moto 1 last week and struggled for the first time since he was involved in a crash with Eli Tomac in Moto 1 of the season opener.
Hunter Lawrence (2:08.747) also posted his best time in the first session. If he continues to finish first or second, he cannot lose the red plate this week, but he does not want to give up any momentum to his brother, Jett.
Rounding out the top was Jorge Prado (2:09.928). His sixth-place overall finish last week in Spring Creek snapped a four-race streak of overall top-fives.
