KTM announces Aaron Plessinger is out for Southwick, Spring Creek

Update: Factory KTM announced Thursday that Aaron Plessinger will sit out Rounds 23 and 24 of the SuperMotocross World Championship at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, and Spring Creek in Millville, Minnesota, so he can recover from a bruised tailbone.

KTM’s announcement came one day after Plessinger posted an update on social media, implying he would miss Southwick:

Following a crash at RedBud in the first moto, Aaron Plessinger provided an update on his condition on social media Tuesday, and while he did not declare that he will miss the upcoming round, he phrasing leaves some doubt regarding his inclusion to the roster at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, this weekend.

“First off thank you to everyone that has checked in on me and well RedBud did not go as I expected,” Plessinger said. “It’s such a bummer to go down like that without even a lap in. I ended up getting a decent jump out of the gate and going down in the first corner and as soon as I hit the ground I got hit from behind. It tore my pants and gave me a nice cut right on my tailbone.

“The guys over at Alpinestars Medic unit got me cleaned up, stitched up and on my way, I want to thank them for that. As much as it sucks I’m glad it’s not worse and I’m glad nothing is broken. Gonna get this wound healed up and be back as soon as I can. Thank you everyone for your support! Hoping this black cloud I’m under passes by soon.”

Plessinger saying he hopes to be back “as soon as [he] can” is ambiguous enough to suggest that he is considering Southwick a race day decision, but he can ill-afford to miss very many more motos if he wants to qualify for a guaranteed spot in the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs that begin September 12 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Plessinger is currently 13th in the combined SuperMotocross, 77 points above the cutline. Six rounds of Pro Motocross are yet to be contested, which amounts to a cushion of 13 points per moto.

Plessinger missed the final # rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross series after suffering an injury in Birmingham, Alabama, missing the final seven rounds.

He failed to score points in the second moto of Round 2 of the Pro Motocross season and both motos at RedBud.
