Selected by the Pelicans with the 58th overall pick in last month’s draft, Pierre averaged 10.0 points per game in three appearances in Las Vegas. While he didn’t shoot the ball well, making just 27 percent from the field, the rookie wing is coming off a senior season at SMU in which he averaged 17.6 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. New Orleans now has one available two-way slot, with Hunter Dickinson already under contract.

Pierre only played 12 minutes off the bench, and he didn’t produce much. He should see his role increase as summer league continues as the Pelicans look to evaluate the 58th pick from last month.

Pierre, who played his first college basketball season in 2020-21 at Southern Miss, turns 24 next month. He played his final season at SMU, averaging 17.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.4 three-pointers per game in 2025-26, shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 75.8 percent from the foul line. Pierre is a capable scorer on all three levels, but he turns 24 in mid-July. Pierre is a New Orleans native and will return to play for his hometown team, though they already have plenty of depth in the backcourt.
