According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Pelicans have claimed Trey Jemison off of waivers.

The Grizzlies waived Jemison on Wednesday, as the team needed to free up a two-way contract slot for Jay Huff. He is reportedly headed to New Orleans on an unspecified deal two days later. Whether or not Jemison can become relevant to fantasy basketball remains to be seen, but there may be an opportunity to compete for minutes. After losing Jonas Valanciunas in free agency, the Pelicans signed Daniel Theis and Karlo Matkovic. The team also selected Yves Missi in the first round of the June draft, and all three are expected to compete for the right to start.
Antonio Reeves

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Pelicans are signing Antonio Reeves to a three-year, $5.41 million contract.

Reeves, the 47th overall pick in last month’s draft, played well for the Pelicans in Las Vegas. While the upside may be limited, his ability to provide instant offense helped the second-round pick secure his NBA status for next season. According to Scotto, the third year of Reeves’ deal is a team option.

Jordan Hawkins (right ankle injury) has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against the Nuggets.

Hawkins’ summer league experience came to a painful end during the second quarter, as he suffered a left ankle injury while attempting to jump for a lob pass. The good news is that X-rays on the ankle were negative, but the full severity of the injury remains unknown. Hawkins struggled with his shot during summer league, and he’ll need to be better in that area during the preseason if he’s to have a shot at earning consistent rotation minutes in his second NBA season.

Jordan Hawkins struggled with his shot on Thursday and finished with 13 points (4-of-13 FGs), two rebounds, three assists, one block and two triples in an 88-77 loss to the Grizzlies.

Hawkins had some excellent stretches during his rookie season, but this summer hasn’t been his best shooting performance. He has shot below 35% in each of his four games this summer, which isn’t what is expected from a lottery pick heading into year two. However, he already proved that he can shoot the ball well in the NBA, so he should continue to be a solid floor spacer for them in his second season, though his fantasy upside will be limited unless there is injuries in front of him.

Yves Missi finished with 11 points (5-of-8 FGs), six rebounds, one assist and three blocks against Memphis on Thursday.

Missi may not have much competition for minutes at center as a rookie, but he has been a bit disappointing this summer. The shot blocking has been solid, but he has a total of 19 rebounds through four games. He played 30 minutes in this game after averaging 19.0 minutes per game through the first three. The opportunity should be enough to warrant a draft pick in standard leagues, though his production this summer shouldn’t give fantasy managers much confidence.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Ingram’s has limited trade value now that potential suitors made other moves.

The Kings added DeMar DeRozan while the Spurs added Harrison Barnes. New Orleans seems more likely to give the 2024-25 season a go with him on the roster before accessing potential landing spots for Ingram.

Yves Missi accumulated nine points (4-of-7 FGs, 1-of-4 FTs), three rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocked shots in 21 minutes in Sunday’s 91-86 loss to Orlando.

The Pelicans began Sunday with two centers on standard contracts for next season (Missi and Daniel Theis), and they now have three. Karlo Matkovic’s signing was reported during Sunday’s game, giving the Pelicans three bigs to work with at this point in the offseason. Missi’s activity as a rebounder and defender is why he was selected 21st overall in last month’s draft, and he should be given every opportunity to win the starting job. If the rookie can do that, he’ll be a must-draft player in most leagues.

Antonio Reeves shot 6-of-11 from the field and 0-of-3 from the foul line in Sunday’s loss to Orlando, tallying 12 points, two rebounds, and three assists in 24 minutes.

Reeves did not shoot the ball well from three (0-of-4) or the foul line on Sunday, but that should not damper his performances with the Pelicans. New Orleans has one standard contract slot available after signing Karlo Matkovic, and Reeves may be a prime candidate for that spot. He impressed in the Pelicans’ minicamp before summer league and has played well since the games began. However, minutes would be limited once the regular season starts, making Reeves a non-factor in most redraft leagues.

Jordan Hawkins amassed 24 points (6-of-18 FGs, 10-of-11 FTs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes in Sunday’s 91-86 loss to the Magic.

While Hawkins did lead all scorers with 24 points, this was not an efficient performance. In addition to shooting 6-of-18 from the field, the second-year guard was responsible for eight turnovers. Hawkins’ role in Las Vegas differs from the one he’ll likely have once the season begins, as the Pelicans have put him in position to make more plays with the ball in his hands. While that approach should aid in his development, the presence of Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum means Hawkins will remain a low-usage player when the games count.
Karlo Matković

The Pelicans have signed Karl Matkovic to a three-year contract.

While there were questions about what the Pelicans would do at the center position after losing Jonas Valanciunas in free agency, lead executive David Griffin sounded comfortable with the options at the team’s disposal. Matkovic, who played in 10 games for the franchise’s G League affiliate, was one of those options, and he’s played well enough to earn a standard contract. The third year of his deal will reportedly be a team option, and Matkovic could have value in deeper fantasy leagues this winter if he and rookie Yves Missi are ahead of Daniel Theis in the rotation.
