In a recent speaking engagement at Invest Fest in Atlanta, Lonzo Ball said, “I’m going to play again.”

It’s not a surprising statement from Ball, who is surely trying to stay optimistic after it was confirmed that he won’t play in 2023-24 due to a lingering knee issue. Ball hasn’t played since January of 2022, and his extended absence unfortunately reminds us of Jonathan Isaac. Ball is a hold in dynasty leagues only if you have an IL spot available, but otherwise, he doesn’t need to be rostered anywhere. Jevon Carter, Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White will all get extended run at the PG spot this season for Chicago.

CHI Shooting Guard #21

The Bulls have signed Terry Taylor to a standard contract.

After joining the Bulls on a two-way deal back in February, Taylor will return to the Windy City on a standard deal. He appeared in a total of 31 games for the Pacers and Bulls last season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.5 minutes. The good news for Taylor is that he’ll be on a standard deal next season, likely for the league minimum. The bad is that his place within the Bulls’ rotation is unlikely to change much, if at all. Taylor’s return will not impact fantasy basketball.

CHI Shooting Guard #12

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls have signed Ayo Dosunmu to a deal worth $21 million over three years.

Three days after it was reported that Dosunmu’s time in Chicago could be coming to a close, he’s agreed to a new deal. Dosunmu started 51 of the 80 games he appeared in last season, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.7 3-pointers in 26.2 minutes, shooting 49.3% from the field and 80.5% from the foul line. While the Bulls did add Jevon Carter in free agency, Lonzo Ball missing the entire 2023-24 season will free up minutes for players like Dosunmu and Coby White. Who offers quality fantasy value will be sorted out in training camp.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls have signed Onuralp Bitim to a two-way contract.

A native of Turkey, Bitim spent this past season playing for Bursaspor in the nation’s top basketball league. A second-team All-EuroCup selection, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 17.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 2.0 3-pointers per game in that competition. News of Bitim’s signing was first reported on June 25 by On Tap Sports Net. He has the ability to space the floor with his perimeter shooting, as evidenced by Bitim making more than 40% of his 3-point attempts in Turkey’s BSL.

Jason Berstein said on 670 The Score “I don’t think [Ayo Dosunmu] believes he will be back either. We were hearing Toronto is interested & is a likely option.”

Dosunmu is a restricted free agent after two solid seasons with the Bulls. They won’t have Lonzo Ball again next season, but apparently they’re confident in their other options. They added Jevon Carter in free agency and still have Coby White, Alex Caruso and Dalen Terry as other options, as well as Javon Freeman-Liberty, who shined in Summer League. If Dosunmu ends up in Toronto, he’ll compete with Dennis Schroder for point guard minutes.

Dalen Terry had a solid game on Saturday with 20 points (7-for-10 FGs), five rebounds, four assists, one block and four 3-pointers in a 90-85 win over Washington.

Terry has struggled with his shot this summer, but he has still been able to contribute in other areas. However, he was finally able to get his shot going in this game, which led to a big performance. He didn’t play much during his rookie season, but he has a real chance to play a role for Chicago this season. It may not lead to much fantasy value this season, but it could within a few years.
Zach LaVine

CHI Shooting Guard #8

According to NBC Sports Chicago’s Ryan Taylor, Zach LaVine does not anticipate being traded from the Bulls.

LaVine’s name has been floated around in trade rumors for quite a while, but the shooting guard says he’s committed to the Bulls and doesn’t see himself being traded anytime soon. The Bulls had an underwhelming offseason and will run back a .500 season with a nearly identical roster that’s likely to include LaVine.
Dalen Terry

CHI Shooting Guard #25

Dalen Terry posted a full line on Thursday with 12 points (4-for-13 FGs), five rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block against the Cavaliers.

This game was much of the same for Terry that we’ve already seen this summer. He stuffed the stat sheet on poor shooting. Terry didn’t play much during his rookie season, and he has a chance to become part of Chicago’s rotation this year. However, it’s unlikely that he gets enough minutes to be worth rostering in standard leagues.
Julian Phillips

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Bulls have signed Julian Phillips to a four-year contract worth $8.1 million.

The 35th overall pick in last month’s draft, Phillips essentially bet on himself despite more than a few pundits believing that he should return to Tennessee for another season. The bet has paid off, with the rookie wing getting the first three seasons of his contract guaranteed. That shows an immense amount of faith on the part of the Bulls. Already viewed as a plus defender, Phillips has shot the ball well in Las Vegas. If that carries over into the regular season, that would boost the rookie forward’s fantasy value.

CHI Small Forward #35

Julian Phillips was solid on Tuesday and contributed 16 points (6-for-8 FGs), four rebounds and three 3-pointers against Sacramento.

After struggling mightily in his first Summer League game, Phillips was able to contribute much more in game two. He should be able to contribute defensively from day one, but his offensive game was seen as more of a project. However, he was able to make all three of his attempts from deep in this game, which is an encouraging sign for him heading into his rookie season.
