Ryan Kalkbrenner produced 13 points (6-of-8 FGs, 1-of-4 FTs), nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in Monday’s win over the 76ers.
Due to Monday’s game being a blowout, Kalkbrenner (26 minutes) played more than starter Moussa Diabaté (12 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes). The rookie finished one rebound shy of a double-double, and the overall production was excellent. Kalkbrenner’s fantasy ceiling is lower than it was earlier this season since he’s coming off the bench, but the 7-foot-1 center is still playing consistent rotation minutes.
Kon Knueppel
CHA
Guard-Forward
#7
Kon Knueppel tallied 12 points (5-of-9 FGs), eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and two three-pointers in Monday’s win over the 76ers.
Like the other Hornets starters, Knueppel’s playing time decreased because Monday’s game was a blowout. The rookie logged 20 minutes, negatively affecting his production. However, fantasy managers still received solid value in the rebound, assist and steal categories. Knueppel, who has been one of the best rookies in the NBA this season, returns to action on Wednesday when the Hornets visit Memphis.
LaMelo Ball
CHA
Guard
#1
LaMelo Ball amassed 11 points (4-of-12 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), two rebounds, eight assists, one steal and two three-pointers in Monday’s win over the 76ers.
Recently, the Hornets have taken measures to manage Ball’s workload, so the training staff must have loved Monday’s outcome. Charlotte won by a large margin, beating the 76ers 130-93, which led to Ball playing only 20 minutes. Fantasy managers who have him rostered would have hoped for a more competitive game given the impact on Ball’s playing time, but keeping him healthy throughout the season is Charlotte’s priority.
Brandon Miller
CHA
Forward
#24
Brandon Miller finished Monday’s rout of the 76ers with 30 points (9-of-12 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and six three-pointers.
Monday’s game was one of the best of the season for Miller, and not just because he notched his third 30-point game. The third-year wing only needed to attempt 12 shots from the field to get the job done, shooting 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. And with the Hornets leading by as much as 50, Miller did not play at all during the fourth quarter. He’s been on a roll recently, having scored at least 20 points in seven consecutive games.
Collin Sexton
CHA
Guard
#8
Collin Sexton (hamstring) is available for Monday’s matchup with the 76ers.
Sexton has done most of his damage off the bench this season, and if he’s not in the starting lineup, his availability doesn’t have a major impact in the realm of fantasy hoops.
Collin Sexton
CHA
Guard
#8
Collin Sexton (hamstring) is questionable for Monday’s game against the 76ers.
While Sexton’s availability does affect the Hornets’ bench rotation, it will not have a significant impact on fantasy basketball. Tre Mann may pick up a few more minutes off the bench, but there’s no need to roster him in redraft leagues.
Moussa Diabaté
CHA
Forward
#14
Moussa Diabaté had 11 points (2-of-3 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), 14 rebounds and one steal against the Wizards on Saturday.
Diabaté again started ahead of Ryan Kalkbrenner against the Wizards on Saturday. The 24-year-old center also played the majority of the center minutes with 32 minutes played to Kalkbrenner’s 16 and it’s no mystery as to why given their respective production Saturday. The pair of centers continue to handle the center minutes, though it’s anyone’s guess who will lead the team in minutes on a given night. Kalkbrenner’s fantasy value would have better standing if Diabaté’s role was diminished in any way.
Brandon Miller
CHA
Forward
#24
Brandon Miller had 21 points (7-of-11 FGs, 5-of-5 FTs), 10 rebounds, seven assists, one steal and two three-pointers in Saturday’s victory over the Wizards.
Miller was just three assists shy of recording a triple-double against the Wizards on Saturday. The 23-year-old small forward is averaging 23.7 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game and 3.2 three-pointers per game over his last six games. Miller has returned fifth-round per game value over the last two weeks. The Hornets will play four games next week, starting with a matchup against the 76ers on Monday.
LaMelo Ball
CHA
Guard
#1
LaMelo Ball had 20 points (8-of-19 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), two rebounds, 11 assists, one steal and three three-pointers in the Hornets’ 119-115 victory over the Wizards on Saturday.
Ball played 32 minutes for the first time in 12 days, a span of five games. The 24-year-old had 20 points on 19 field goal attempts, but his real value came from setting up teammates. Ball had 11 assists and the Hornets won their third consecutive game when he has double-digit assists. He’s provided seventh-round per game value over the last two weeks.
Ryan Kalkbrenner
CHA
Center
#11
The Hornets will start LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate against the Wizards on Saturday.
Kalkbrenner came off the bench in the Hornets’ win over the Magic on Thursday, but the 24-year-old rookie center played 27 minutes compared to starter Moussa Diabate’s 16 minutes. The Hornets’ Twitter account initially had Kalkbrenner in Saturday’s starting lineup, before correctly showing Diabate as the starter. Both centers will likely still play Saturday, but if Charlotte continues to give Kalkbrenner more minutes he could move into the starting lineup eventually.
