The Grizzlies announced on Thursday that they have signed Shaquille Harrison.

With the Grizzlies already having 17 players on guaranteed contracts for the 2023-24 campaign (teams are only allowed 15 once the regular season begins), it’s likely that Harrison is joining the team on an Exhibit 10 contract. A six-year veteran of the NBA, the former Tulsa standout has suited up for six different franchises. Harrison appeared in five games for the Blazers last season, averaging 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 2.2 steals in 24.0 minutes. Even with Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games of the season, Harrison faces a difficult fight to make the Grizzlies’ opening night roster. His status will not impact fantasy basketball.

The Grizzlies announced on Thursday that they have signed GG Jackson to a two-way contract.

One of the youngest prospects in the 2023 draft class, Jackson was selected with the 45th overall pick in June’s NBA Draft. While he did show some flashes of potential during Summer League play, Jackson far too often went into “feels like leather” mode on the offensive end of the floor. Look for him to spend most of his rookie campaign with the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate, and he isn’t a must-draft player in dynasty leagues.

Jaren Jackson Jr. finished Sunday’s 98-88 win over Spain with 14 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Jackson has been one of Team USA’s best performers throughout the preparation for this month’s FIBA World Cup, proving effective on both ends of the floor. The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year blocked three shots on Sunday and changed a few others while also putting forth an efficient effort on the offensive end of the floor. Jalen Brunson, who has emerged as a team leader, scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-9 shooting from the field. Next up for the Americans is another friendly, this one against Greece. Jackson and Brunson should continue to lead the way for one of the favorites to win gold at the FIBA World Cup, even with the United States’ lack of recent success in the event.

Santi Aldama finished Friday’s 99-79 win over Slovenia with a line of 18 points (5-of-9 FGs, 8-of-12 FTs), seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocked shots in 24 minutes.

While this was only a friendly ahead of the FIBA World Cup, it was good to see Aldama be as impactful as he was on Friday. And this upcoming season could be a big one for him in Memphis. While starting center Steven Adams (knee) is expected to be good to go when training camp begins, Brandon Clarke (Achilles) remains without a clear timeline for return. As a result, additional frontcourt minutes will be available behind Adams and Jaren Jackson Jr. in the frontcourt, opening the door for Aldama. The extra minutes make him worthy of a look in deeper leagues.

Jaren Jackson Jr. was voted the top player at this weekend’s USA Basketball training camp by his teammates.

The informal poll was conducted by The Athletic, with multiple players saying that Jackson was the most impressive of the bunch. The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, JJJ will be a key figure for a USA Basketball squad that aims to win gold at the upcoming FIBA World Cup. Next up for Jackson and his teammates will be a scrimmage against Puerto Rico on Monday in Las Vegas. JJJ appeared in 63 games last season, providing 1st-round, per-game value in 9-cat formats. He should be a first-round player again this season, especially with Ja Morant being suspended for the Grizzlies’ first 25 games.
Desmond Bane

Desmond Bane (right big toe surgery) has not been cleared for 5-on-5 work but expects to be ready for training camp.

Bane, who underwent surgery to repair a fractured sesamoid bone in his right big toe, agreed to an extension worth $207 million over five years in July. While he still hasn’t been cleared for 5-on-5 action, the good news is that training camp doesn’t begin until early October. With Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games of the regular season, that could serve as the catalyst Bane needs to make a run at providing 1st-round value in standard leagues.

G.G. Jackson struggled on Saturday and finished with just eight points (2-for-11 FGs), six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 102-79 loss to Phoenix.

After an awful season at South Carolina, Jackson slipped to Memphis in the second round. He has had his moments this summer, but he’s struggled for the most part and ended his first Summer League with a poor shooting performance. Jackson will spend the majority of his season with the Memphis Hustle, though he’s worth stashing in dynasty. He was once the top prospect in the 2024 class, which is easy to gloss over after his college season. He isn’t a guarantee, but he’s worth a shot.

Jake LaRavia played 25 minutes in Friday’s 100-69 win over the Lakers, accumulating 20 points (7-of-14 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), five rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and three 3-pointers.

Memphis’ more experienced players had a good run in Las Vegas, with LaRavia and David Roddy possibly being in the running to fill the void in the starting lineup due to Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension to start next season. LaRavia scored 22 and 20 points in his last two games, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Grizzlies gave him the final game off. Kenneth Lofton Jr., who also played well in Las Vegas, finished Friday’s victory with 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block, and two 3-pointers, while Vince Williams Jr. added a double-double and a full stat line (11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, one block, and two 3-pointers).
David Roddy

David Roddy shot 8-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line in Friday’s 100-69 win over the Lakers, scoring 21 points with five rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes.

Roddy and the Grizzlies were in command from the start, as they scored the game’s first 12 points and never looked back. And with Memphis not qualifying for the semifinals, there’s a chance that this was his last game of the summer. If so, Roddy’s performance against the Lakers was a good way to go out. With Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games of next season, there’s an opening in the starting lineup. While Ziaire Williams has been a spot starter in the past, so has Roddy, and his play in Las Vegas could give him an advantage on the competition heading into training camp. Whoever gets the nod (Jake LaRavia should also be in the mix) will be worth streaming until Morant returns.

Jake LaRavia accounted for 22 points (6-of-15 FGs, 8-of-11 FTs), five rebounds, two assists, one block, and two 3-pointers in Wednesday’s 83-74 loss to the Clippers, playing 30 minutes.

With LaRavia putting forth another quality performance, it’s fair to wonder if the Grizzlies will shut him down for the remainder of summer league. If so, Wednesday’s performance was a good one to go out with, as LaRavia got to the foul line at a solid rate and was one of two Grizzlies to score at least 20 points (Kenneth Lofton Jr- 24). With Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games of the season and Dillon Brooks now in Houston, there will be an open spot in the starting lineup next to Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane. At this point, LaRavia and David Roddy may be the top candidates for that role, with the winner’s fantasy value set to receive a boost.
