The Hawks have announced the signing of Chris Silva to an Exhibit 10 contract.

Silva played most of last season with the Hawks’ G League affiliate, with the Mavericks signing him to two separate 10-day contracts in January/February. Given the fact that Atlanta will head into training camp with 15 players on guaranteed contracts, this move was likely made with the team’s G League roster in mind. Don’t expect Silva to impact fantasy basketball in 2023-24.
Bogdan Bogdanovic

ATL Shooting Guard #13

Bogdan Bogdanovic finished Sunday’s 83-77 loss to Germany with 17 points (6-of-10 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), three rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block, and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes.

Serbia fell short of its goal of winning a world championship, but the silver medal matches the nation’s best finish (2014) in the competition. Bogdanovic was outstanding throughout the tournament, earning a place on FIBA’s “All-Star Five” team for his efforts. As for his fantasy potential in Atlanta next season, Bogdanovic projects to be a late-round player in standard leagues. He would be of greater value on nights when the Hawks are shorthanded, but we’ve also seen Bogdanovic struggle with injury issues in recent seasons.
Clint Capela

According to Marc Stein on a recent Stein Line podcast, the Mavericks are still interested in trading Atlanta for Clint Capela.

It’s no secret that the Mavs have been trying to upgrade at the center position. They acquired Richaun Holmes in the offseason and drafted Duke big man Dereck Lively II in the 2023 NBA Draft, but the team would surely prefer to make a more marquee signing. The Hawks recently moved on from John Collins in a trade to the Jazz, and it’s believed they will move on from Capela sooner rather than later to give Onyeka Okongwu more playing time. Okongwu is an early fantasy sleeper for 2023-24 redraft leagues, but he won’t be able to achieve his full potential until Capela is off Atlanta’s roster. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this situation as we move closer to the start of the NBA season.

The NBA announced on Wednesday that the Hawks and Magic will play a regular season game in Mexico City on November 9.

Atlanta and Orlando will be the latest teams to play a game in Mexico City, with their meeting scheduled for early November. Both Magic franchises will play in the city that weekend, with the G League’s Osceola Magic visiting the Mexico City Capitanes on November 10. San Antonio participated in the last two Mexico City Games matchups, most recently playing the Heat last season.
Wesley Matthews

ATL Shooting Guard #23

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks have signed Wesley Matthews to a one-year deal.

After spending his last two seasons in Milwaukee, Matthews is headed to Atlanta. Injuries limited the veteran wing to 52 games in 2022-23, and he posted averages of 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 15.8 minutes. While Matthews gives the Hawks an experienced wing who can help out defensively, this move is unlikely to impact fantasy basketball.
Kobe Bufkin

ATL Point Guard

Kobe Bufkin shot 7-of-18 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line in Sunday’s 101-80 loss to the Mavericks, scoring 18 points with one rebound, one assist, one steal, and one blocked shot in 23 minutes.

While Bufkin did lead the Hawks in scoring, this was not a great game for the rookie point guard. He missed all six of his 3-point attempts while also dishing out just one assist. And shooting the ball was an issue for Bufkin throughout his time in Las Vegas. In the four games prior to Sunday’s finale, he averaged 13.0 points while shooting 31.6% from the field and 17.4% from the foul line. The positive for Bufkin is that he only committed one turnover after averaging 5.5 in Atlanta’s first four games. The presence of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray will make it very difficult for Bufkin to provide value in fantasy leagues next season, so managers should leave him on their draft boards.
Seth Lundy

ATL Shooting Guard

Seth Lundy led the Hawks with 16 points (6-for-15 FGs), eight rebounds, four assists, one block and four 3-pointers against the 76ers on Thursday.

Lundy has had some solid performances so far this summer after being selected with the 46th pick in the draft. He’ll be on a two-way contract this season for the Hawks, but he has shown that he could be a rotational piece in the NBA one day. However, most of his first year will be in College Park.
Kobe Bufkin

ATL Point Guard

Kobe Bufkin had an excellent game on Thursday and finished with 14 points (5-for-11 FGs), seven assists, one block and five turnovers in a 99-98 win over Philadelphia.

Bufkin has had a decent summer, but this was the highlight of his performance in Vegas. He drove to the basket and hit a layup to give the Hawks the lead with 12 seconds left in this game. He should be a solid backup point guard option for Atlanta this season, and he’s shown some playmaking ability this summer, even if the shooting percentages haven’t been up to par. That isn’t surprising for a rookie guard, and it is something that should improve.
Tyrese Martin

ATL Small Forward #22

Tyrese Martin shot 9-of-15 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line in Wednesday’s 99-93 win over the Timberwolves, scoring 25 points with nine rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers in 23 minutes.

After appearing in only 16 games as a rookie, Martin’s looking to earn a longer look from the Hawks in 2023-24. The former UConn standout was outstanding on Wednesday, putting up a game-high point total while also being a factor in the rebound and assist categories. Expecting quality fantasy production from Martin would be too much right now, but he should figure more prominently in the competition for minutes on the wing when training camp begins.
Bruno Fernando

ATL Center #24

The Hawks announced on Monday that they’ve picked up Bruno Fernando’s player option for the 2023-24 season.

Fernando will make a little under $2.6 million next season to fill the role of the Hawks’ third center. Even if Atlanta were to decide to trade starter Clint Capela, Fernando is unlikely to get the minutes needed to be of value in fantasy leagues.
